Benefits Summary for Full Time Employees
Retirement -
The Tax Collector contributes a percentage of each
employee's wages earned to the Florida Retirement System. The amount
contributed varies and is determined by the State Legislature.
Employees make no contribution to the Retirement System and may choose from
the traditional retirement plan or the new investment plan.
Health Insurance -
The current health care provided for the Tax
Collector's Office is United Healthcare. The Tax Collector's
office pays a portion of the health insurance premium.
Life Insurance -
The Tax Collector pays the full premium for one times
the annual salary in group life insurance. Employees have the option to
purchase supplemental life insurance on themselves as well as life insurance
for a spouse and dependent children.
Short Term Disability -
The Tax Collector pays the full premium for a
short term disability insurance policy.
Long Term Disability -
The Tax Collector pays the full premium for long
term disability insurance policy for all employees.
Dental Insurance -
The employee pays the full amount of the premium
through payroll deduction.
Holidays -
Employees receive ten holidays per year plus two
floating holidays. An employee must be hired as of January 1 in order to
qualify for both floating holidays for that calendar year. Floating holidays
cannot be carried over into the next year.
Annual Leave - Annual accrual varies with length of service:

Those working 25 hours per week have a prorated accrual. Every employee
must take at least half his/her vacation accrual each year.
Sick Leave -
Sick leave is accrued at the rate of 2.46 hours per pay
period for each employee. Sick leave can be used for illness of certain
dependent family members as well as the employee's own illness.
Bereavement Leave -
An employee may be granted up to 3 full working days
of paid leave in the event of the death of a member of the immediate family.
Civil Leave -
Employees may request leave with pay for an absence to
serve on jury duty and to attend court as a witness under subpoena. Civil
Leave will not be granted to those who are either a party in a case or have
a family member who is a party in a case.
Military Leave -
Employees duly called for training in a reserve
component of the Armed Forces may be extended paid leave not to exceed
seventeen working days in any calendar year. Employees activated full time
due to "Operation Enduring Freedom" receive up to 30 days of full pay with a
salary supplement after the 30-day period.
Deferred Compensation -
The Tax Collector contributes 2.5% of the salary
of each employee to a deferred compensation plan. Employees
must enroll in either Hartford or NRSI in order for the funds to be
deposited. Employees are eligible to contribute up to $15,000 of their
annual salary into the plan of their choice. Funds deposited by the employee
are tax deferred.
Credit Union -
Employees are eligible to join the Florida West Coast Credit Union.
Direct Deposit -
Paychecks may be directly deposited into an account of the employee's
choice.
Bus Passes -
In order to encourage employees to utilize mass transit,
the Tax Collector provides a bus pass for employees who choose to ride the
bus on a full time basis.

The entire package of benefits (including insurance rates) offered to
employees are reviewed each year. Benefits and the amount covered by
the Tax Collector are based on available funds.
